Andromedia's LikeMinds Personalization Technology Increases Customer Spend Rate On Levi's Online Store by 33% and Boosts Repeat Visit Rate by 27%.

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 30, 1999--

Levi Strauss & Co. E-commerce Customers Using

LikeMinds-powered Style Finder Application View More

Products, Shop Longer, and Return More Often

Andromedia, Inc., a leading supplier of e-marketing software for e-commerce, today announced groundbreaking results disclosed by Levi Strauss & Co. that quantifiably demonstrate the power of Andromedia's LikeMinds(TM) personalization technology to drive higher revenue and increase profits for e-commerce sites.

The data released by Levi(R) illustrates that LikeMinds personalization at www.levi.com increased customer spend rate and repeat visit rate by nearly one-third. In addition, average product views and the average time visitors spent shopping on the Levi site nearly doubled.

In a first-of-its-kind application called Style Finder, the Levi online store uses LikeMinds collaborative filtering technology to give customers recommendations for the Levi products that best fit their personal style. Customers tell Style Finder what type of music, sports, and "looks" they like such as grunge grunge - /gruhnj/ 1. That which is grungy, or that which makes it so.

or hip-hop. Then, Style Finder looks for clothing choices other customers with the same tastes and preferences made, and predicts which Levi's products are most likely to fit the customer's individual style and needs.

"This is a first for e-commerce and the personalization industry," notes Steve Kanzler, vice president of marketing for Andromedia. "No e-commerce site has done the kind of detailed analysis of the impact of personalization that Levi's has. They directly compared the experience of customers who received a personalized experience with those who didn't.

"Now, for the first time we have quantifiable results that prove what we have been saying all along -- Andromedia's LikeMinds personalization software turns browsers into buyers and buyers into loyal customers. The technology drives more sales and increases customer retention while increasing customer satisfaction. In other words Adv. 1. in other words - otherwise stated; "in other words, we are broke"

Additional Online Personalization Breakthroughs

Andromedia's relationship with Levi Strauss & Co. has resulted in the achievement of many other "firsts" in online personalization. The Levi's Online Store represents the first use of collaborative filtering for personalization in the online fashion industry.

In addition, by using customer preferences in fashion, music and activities to predict preferences for specific clothing products without knowing what clothing products the customer has selected in the past, Style Finder demonstrates the ability of collaborative filtering to use preference data from one category to predict preferences in an entirely different product category.

This demonstrates that LikeMinds collaborative filtering is capable of making cross category recommendations necessary to do highly accurate and personalized up-sells and cross-sells in e-commerce applications.
