Andromedia, Inc. and Sun Microsystems Join Forces; ARIA Recorder Reporter Helps Sun Manage Developer Catalog.

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 18, 1997--Andromedia, Inc. today announced that Sun Microsystems Sun Microsystems, Inc. (NASDAQ: JAVA[3]) is an American vendor of computers, computer components, computer software, and information-technology services, founded on 24 February 1982.  has adopted Andromedia's ARIA Recorder Reporter(TM) web activity tracking software to monitor Sun's Catalyst developer program catalog catalog, descriptive list, on cards or in a book, of the contents of a library. Assurbanipal's library at Nineveh was cataloged on shelves of slate. The first known subject catalog was compiled by Callimachus at the Alexandrian Library in the 3d cent. B.C.  website (http://catalyst.sunit.com).

Andromedia will be included in the Catalyst catalog, which lists hardware and software products for Sun platforms from over 6,000 companies, and will demonstrate ARIA in Sun's booth (Booth No. 102) at the Web Design and Development '97 conference February 23-25 in San Francisco San Francisco (săn frănsĭs`kō), city (1990 pop. 723,959), coextensive with San Francisco co., W Calif., on the tip of a peninsula between the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay, which are connected by the strait known as the Golden . A trial version of ARIA will be distributed to 250,000 Sun users on a Catalyst CDWare(TM) CD-ROM CD-ROM: see compact disc.

, which will be bundled with every workstation and server that Sun ships worldwide.

In addition to tracking hits and generating website activity reports, ARIA Recorder Reporter is the easiest product on the market to install and maintain, and it scales to handle websites with very heavy traffic. Because ARIA's intuitive user interface requires only a web browser The program that serves as your front end to the Web on the Internet. In order to view a site, you type its address (URL) into the browser's Location field; for example, www.computerlanguage.com, and the home page of that site is downloaded to you.  to access, it is a powerful tool for the entire Catalyst organization.

Sun's Director of Catalyst Marketing and Catalyst program managers use ARIA to find out which catalog listings visitors look at most and where those visitors come from on the Internet. "Before ARIA, we had to guess as to the amount of traffic and where it was coming from," said Regina Ayars, Group Manager of the Sun Microsystems Catalyst Developer Program. "Now we can serve our advertisers and customers better."

Sun will soon use ARIA to give premier Catalyst program members -- the largest and most important Sun platform developers -- access to live activity information for the Catalyst site. Because ARIA reports are HTML-based, premier members will be able to view reports from the Catalyst site over the Internet using ordinary web browsers The following is a list of web browsers. "We are very pleased that Sun has chosen Andromedia as a key partner. This relationship validates the importance of website tracking and ARIA's position as the only live, completely integrated, easy-to-use application of its kind," said Kent Godfrey, Andromedia President and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Sun has taken advantage of Aria's rapid (less than 30 minutes) installation, nearly maintenance-free operation, and fully automatic report generation. Kelly Chang, network architect for the Catalyst Marketing Group, said, "ARIA users at Sun appreciate the on-demand reports, which give them information about activity as it happens and break activity down by the hour, not just as a daily summary."

Andromedia, Inc. was founded in May 1995 and incorporated in December 1995. The company's mission is to develop and market the most powerful, flexible and widely-used software platform for recording, accessing and reporting anonymous activity on the Internet, intranets, and related media.
