Andrew expands NetLynx family of connectivity products; Token-Ring adapter cards ease LAN connectivity.


ORLAND PARK, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 1, 1995--Andrew Corp. has announced it is shipping the NetLynx(R) Series III family of Token-Ring adapter cards (TRACs).

These adapter cards, which combine plug-and-play functionality with high-performance LAN (Local Area Network) A communications network that serves users within a confined geographical area. The "clients" are the user's workstations typically running Windows, although Mac and Linux clients are also used.  connectivity, are available in three versions, ISA (1) (Instruction Set Architecture) See instruction set.

 III, MCA III, and EISA (Extended ISA) Pronounced "ee-suh." A PC bus standard that extends the 16-bit ISA bus (AT bus) to 32 bits and provides bus mastering. ISA cards can plug into an EISA slot.  III. Targeted towards large Token-Ring sites, the NetLynx Series III adapter cards provide users easy LAN access and management capabilities.

For maximum flexibility and compatibility with existing systems, the NetLynx Series III cards come with a comprehensive set of Token- Ring drivers. Drivers supported include Novell file server 3.X, Microsoft Windows for Workgroups, Windows NT, Windows 95, LAN Manager and IBM LAN Server IBM LAN Server started as a close cousin of Microsoft LAN Manager and first shipped in early 1988. It was originally designed to run on top of Operating System/2 Extended Edition. The network client was called IBM LAN Requester and was included with OS/2 EE 1.1 by default. .

Onboard RAM of 128KB, upgradeable to 512 KB, provides data buffering preventing data overflow and improving network efficiency. Scalable Clock Architecture allows both 4 and 6 MHz operation speeds. The optional 6 MHz input clock speed setting increases packet processing rates by over 40%.

Available in both DB9 and RJ45 connectors, the NetLynx Series III cards allow users flexibility with their connections. Visible, bracket-mounted LEDs provide instant device status and verify operation. SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) A widely used network monitoring and control protocol. Data are passed from SNMP agents, which are hardware and/or software processes reporting activity in each network device (hub, router, bridge, etc.  is supported, giving the user management capability.
