Andrew bridge blazes to 29,000 frames per second; increases performance and eliminates bottlenecks.

ORLAND PARK, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 1, 1995--Andrew Corp. announces the performance enhancement of its BridgePort(TM)/7806 local, Token-Ring bridge.

The bridge, designed for large networks needing high throughput and fewer bottlenecks, can now handle 29,000 frames per second for 28-byte frames. Increased speed will allow users to enjoy enhanced performance and lower latency in a high-speed environment.

The BridgePort/7806 bridge offers premium configuration flexibility by providing the option for Source Routing and Source Routing Transparent bridging. Integration of UTP UTP (uridine triphosphate): see uracil.

(Unshielded Twisted Pair) See twisted pair.

UTP - unshielded twisted pair
and STP STP or standard temperature and pressure, standard conditions for measurement of the properties of matter. The standard temperature is the freezing point of pure water, 0°C; or 273.15°K;.  cabling connections simplifies the wiring process. Ring speed selection between 16 Mbps and 4 Mbps is quickly accomplished by an external switch or with software included with the bridge.

Dual banks of flash EPROM reduce downtime by allowing for upgrades while actively bridging. Protocol and Media Access Control (MAC) filtering increases security and decreases unnecessary network traffic. The Auto Single Route feature eliminates broadcast frames for source route bridging A communications protocol in which the sending station is aware of all the bridges in the network and predetermines the complete route to the destination station before transmitting. Token Ring uses this method. Contrast with transparent bridge. See SRT.  while Spanning Tree Algorithm An algorithm used in transparent bridges that dynamically determines the best path from source to destination. It avoids bridge loops (two or more paths linking one segment to another), which can cause the bridges to misinterpret results.  support allows for wire speed transparent bridging.

The BridgePort/7806 bridge supports IBM LAN Manager, Netview, SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) A widely used network monitoring and control protocol. Data are passed from SNMP agents, which are hardware and/or software processes reporting activity in each network device (hub, router, bridge, etc.  standard MIBs and Andrew private MIB (1) (Management Information Base) The hierarchical database used by the simple network management protocol (SNMP) to describe the particular device being monitored. MIB objects are identified using ASN.1 syntax. See SNMP, RMON, OID and ASN.1.  as well as Andrew BridgeManager. The Andrew BridgeManager software provides a central management point for all Andrew bridges and a graphical user interface graphical user interface (GUI)

``The BridgePort/7806 bridge provides wire speed bridging for enterprise Token-Ring networks for any industry. Customers who use high-bandwidth applications, such as banks, insurance agencies, airlines, or hospitals, will benefit from the enhanced speed which satisfies the performance demands of these applications,'' said Peter Galvin, director of strategic marketing. ``This enhancement affirms the Andrew commitment of providing products with superior technology and plug-and-play simplicity.''

The BridgePort/7806 local bridge is available from Andrew and Andrew Business Partners. List price of the BridgePort/7806 bridge is $4,395. To order, or for more information, contact Andrew Corp. at 800/328-2696, ext. 309, and request Bulletin 3111. -0-
