Andrew announces the MacMidrange Client; Macintosh Client Access/400 software for the AS/400.

, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 21, 1996--Andrew Corp. announced the availability of the MacMidrange(R) Client, the first client software for the Macintosh(R) Operating System operating system (OS)

Software that controls the operation of a computer, directs the input and output of data, keeps track of files, and controls the processing of computer programs.

The product, developed around IBM's Client Access/400 portable core, allows users to access the features and processing power of the AS/400, in the same manner as a PC, but with the Macintosh look and feel.

"This product will have a major impact on the Macintosh to AS/400 connectivity market," said Steve Stillman, MacMidrange product manager at Andrew Corp. "This is not just terminal emulation Using software in a desktop machine to make it perform like a hardware terminal. The emulated terminal is typically in the VT100-500 family, designed originally by Digital Equipment.  with print capability, it really does add significant capability to the Mac. The Mac OS can now easily share database information using ODBC (Open DataBase Connectivity) A database programming interface from Microsoft that provides a common language for Windows applications to access databases on a network.  compliant applications and the true client/server integrated database support between the Mac and AS/400."
