Andrew announces PCI compatibility for the MacTwin card; utilizes the PCI slot for point-to-point twinax connections.

The card provides the same features and benefits of the NuBus version, but allows for point-to-point twinax connections through the Macintosh PCI slot (hardware) PCI slot - A connector on Peripheral Component Interconnect and the associated physical space occupied by the installed PCI card. .

The MacTwin card installs easily as there are no switches or jumpers to set. Connections to an available AS/400 or System/3X host workstation interface are made by the MacTwin twinax cable Twinax cable is a cable specified for the IBM 5250 terminals and printers, which are used with IBM's midrange hosts, which are currently AS/400 (Application System 400) minicomputers (which are now called iSeries or i5), and also with its predecessors, such as the S/36. . An installer program automatically loads the MacTwin software onto the Macintosh.

Users can run up to seven concurrent IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries)  5250 emulation sessions in any combination of terminals and printers. Apple printers directly connected to the Mac can complete print requests from the AS/400 or System/3X.
