, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 12, 1995--Andrew Corp., a Microsoft(R) Solutions Developer, introduces Emerald Client(TM) for Windows 95.

This software package provides IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries)  5250 terminal and printer emulation to the AS/400 midrange system for PCs running Windows 95. Emerald Client for Windows 95 is the latest addition to the Emerald Series of emulation products and incorporates new features with greater functionality.

Emerald Client for Windows 95 builds on the Emerald Series of midrange emulation products offered by Andrew Corp. The Emerald Series is a Windows-based set of client/server applications that provides functions such as SQL SQL

query capabilities, drag-and-drop bi-directional file transfer, and IBM 5250 workstation and printer emulation. It provides connectivity via the Microsoft SNA (Systems Network Architecture) IBM's mainframe network standards introduced in 1974. Originally a centralized architecture with a host computer controlling many terminals, enhancements, such as APPN and APPC (LU 6.  Server, IBM Display Station Adapter and APPC (Advanced Program-to-Program Communications) A high-level protocol from IBM that allows one program to interact with another across the network. Emerald Client for Windows 95 includes all the capabilities of the Emerald Series emulation products and incorporates new features to increase functionality and simplicity:

o SDI (1) (Serial Digital Interface) A physical interface widely used for transmitting digital video in various formats. For electrical transmission, it uses a high grade of coaxial cable and a single BNC connector with Teflon insulation.  (Single Display Interface) functionality allows users to

run numerous copies of Emerald Client software, thus allowing

for multiple 5250 terminal sessions. SDI also increases

efficiency by separating the printer emulation from the

o A transparent window into the host provides users with

hassle-free access to the emulation screen.

o Customization via a Session Command function allows users to

choose connection methods from the PC to the host, and display

available printer devices.

``The release of Windows 95 has created the need for user-friendly, multi-function connections to the AS/400 midrange system for PCs utilizing this operating system,'' said Cindy Provin, midrange emulation marketing manager. ``We are expanding the Emerald Series to meet this demand and to continue providing connectivity solutions that satisfy our customers' needs.''
