Siemens is the turnkey contractor for system integration and installation, which is due for completion in early 2001.

The 12-bay, medium power ALP antenna is the first and smallest of its type to be sold in Thailand. Siemens chose this slotted antenna because it is lightweight and has lower wind loading, making it easier and less expensive to install. The antenna is radome-enclosed for environmental protection, enabling a longer life and lower maintenance costs. ALP series antennas have already proved to be reliable performers in the field, particularly in Taiwan where Andrew has installed a number of similar antennas.

"Channel 3 has over 52 million viewers in Thailand," commented Udom Wattanwibool, Chief Engineer, Channel 3. "A key requirement for the antenna, which can also be used for digital broadcasting, was that it can provide optimal coverage over our viewing area. With the Andrew slotted antenna, we can broadcast a Grade A signal that covers the entire 30 kilometer radius of Thailand's Satun Province area and can even reach viewers living close to the Malaysian border."

In addition to its lighter weight and low wind load features, the slotted antenna has a number of advantages over a panel antenna: The slotted ALP antenna is normally easier and more cost-effective to install and maintain than its panel counterpart; it is also pattern directional and adjustable and has low loss and low system attenuation Loss of signal power in a transmission.

Andrew has unmatched experience with antenna technology and has been supplying antennas to the broadcast industry since the 1950s, including the first antenna to be put on top of New York's Empire State building. More than 60 years of experience, over 800 installed UHF antennas, and a string of technology "firsts" have made Andrew the acknowledged leader in UHF broadcast antenna technology. The first UHF-TV antenna, delivered by Andrew in 1972, is still transmitting and has been 100 per cent reliable for over 26 years of service.
