Andrew Introduces Industry's First All-Digital Remote Radio Head; Complements Andrew's Market Leading Coverage Product Line.

WESTCHESTER, Ill. -- Andrew Corporation Andrew Corporation is an American multinational producer of communications devices. Andrew is a global designer, manufacturer, and supplier of communications equipment, services, and systems. , a global leader in communications systems and products, has introduced the industry's first all-digital remote radio head, a high power unit that provides cost savings and coverage flexibility for global 3G networks.

At 22.5 watts, the new Andrew OneBase(TM) Remote Radio Head is a high power convection-cooled one-man-lift remote radio unit, using fully-digital architecture, including digital pre-distortion and dual-diversity reception, an industry first. It currently is in trial with two global customers.

"With its all-digital architecture, Andrew's OneBase Remote Radio Head leapfrogs competing products that use older technologies," said Mickey Miller Michael "Mickey" Miller (né Swann) is a fictional character in the soap opera EastEnders. He is played by Joe Swash, and made his first appearance on 15 April 2003. Background
Mickey is the son of Mike Swann and Rosie Miller.
, group president, Base Station Subsystems The Base Station Subsystem (BSS) is the section of a traditional cellular telephone network which is responsible for handling traffic and signaling between a mobile phone and the Network Switching Subsystem. , Andrew Corporation. "It also strengthens Andrew's position as a market leader in remote coverage solutions for operators through its fiber/coax-based distributed offerings for indoor and outdoor applications."

Remote radio heads are part of a distributed base station system in which all radio-related functions are contained in a unit mounted outside of a traditional base station transceiver system (BTS BTS - Bug Tracking System ) and linked to a main unit that contains the control and baseband signal processing See DSP. . Remote radio heads enable lower capital and operating expenditures, reduce typical power requirements, and add flexibility to network configurations.

OneBase Remote Radio Head will be displayed at Andrew's exhibit (Hall 1, Stand D08-D09) February 13-16 at 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona. It is the most recent addition to the OneBase product family, which combines Andrew products and technology into complete solutions for use in integrated BTSs. In addition to OneBase Remote Radio Head, Andrew's OneBase family includes:

--OneBase Compact TMA--the industry's most compact tower mounted amplifier A Tower Mounted Amplifier or Mast Head Amplifier is a Low-noise amplifier (LNA) mounted as close as practical to the antenna in mobile masts or Base Transceiver Stations.  for enhancing coverage and capacity in 3G networks.

--OneBase MCPA MCPA, MCP

2-methyl-4-chlorophenoxyacetic acid; a weedkiller reported to be nontoxic at the levels likely to be encountered on pasture, though it has killed cattle dosed experimentally with large single doses.

for use in extending the coverage or increasing the capacity of wireless base stations.

--OneBase Macroshelf--a complete, open standard radio frequency solution that fits within the base station and integrates the transceiver, power amplification, filtering, combining, and associated RF shelf hardware.

--OneBase Pico--a complete single-carrier picocell wireless base station, featuring a capacity of up to 80 users and high-speed downlink packet access

High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) is a 3G (third generation) mobile telephony communications protocol in the High-Speed Packet Access (HSPA) family, which allows networks based on Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) to have higher data
