The upgraded network allows CommSpeed to expand its wireless offerings to include service areas for customers not served by their existing system. CommSpeed currently has over 1100 current customers on its Andrew SkyPath(TM) multi-cell broadband wireless network.

Mark Davis, General Manager of CommSpeed, said, "The performance of the SkyPath MMDS solution is beyond our expectations. The Prescott market has extreme line-of-site restrictions due to the heavily treed and hilly terrain. We can now serve customers we never thought possible from our new cell site. We are able to install low-cost CPE (Customer Premises Equipment) Communications equipment that resides on the customer's premises.

James Yard, Vice President, Broadband Wireless System Group, Andrew Corporation, attributes the installation's success to "significant system testing in our Scottsdale research facility and extensive testing in the field. The CommSpeed design criteria stipulated provision of below the roofline, non line-of-site coverage for eighty percent of the homes and businesses within five miles of the cell tower. Our single carrier solutions proved to be robust while still maintaining extremely high data rates through the wide variety of propagational challenges posed by the Prescott site."

At the core of CommSpeed's broadband wireless network is the SkyPath MMDS System supplied by Andrew Corporation's Broadband Wireless Systems Group. This turnkey system utilizes proven MMDS technology, includes a proprietary implementation of a Vyyo platform employing the cable industry's DOCSIS (Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification) A cable modem standard from the CableLabs research consortium (www.cablelabs.com), which provides equipment certification for interoperability.  standard and is capable of using DOCSIS-compatible modems. The SkyPath System employs multi-modulation and bandwidth scalability for improved coverage in areas of challenged line-of-sight.
