Andrew Corporation (NASDAQ:ANDW) announced an initiative that dramatically lowers the cost of entry into the 2 to 3.7 GHz MMDS applications market. Starting at under $200,000, the SkyPath(TM) entry-level integrated broadband wireless system is a high value, low cost, turnkey package that includes all the equipment, configuration engineering, and implementation services necessary for deploying a base station capable of supporting 1,000 subscribers.

Designed for quick set up, the SkyPath entry-level system package includes highest quality RF and IP components, precision system configuration, and staging and site implementation services.

An entry-level SkyPath system can serve up to 1,000 customers and will typically include: base station antennas, 5 watt transmitters, receivers, and frequency converters packaged into a single integrated rack with either a Hybrid or VYYO modem termination system. This standard package costs under $200,000 and includes installation, configuration for Hybrid or VYYO modem platforms, and 50 customer premise packages. In its basic configuration, the system range is up to 35 miles and achieves high-speed data rates of minimum 1 Mbps downstream and maximum 512 kbps upstream.

The standard SkyPath system for MMDS can be easily upgraded for more power and coverage and additional customers. A maximum of 28 upstream and two 6 MHz downstream channels can be added to the base package chassis.

Optional Andrew network management software provides complete views of operational performance. It reports downstream and upstream aggregate throughput and granularity to the individual subscriber level. Real time bandwidth utilization analysis can be performed to monitor user performance and optimize system capacity. The result is maximum subscriber satisfaction by delivering the highest burst rates achievable.
