Directional couplers are used to sample the forward and reflected power that exists in an RF transmission system. This sampling capability allows the customer to detect any unwanted power fluctuations and ultimately trigger shut down of the RF system before any damage can occur. The couplers for PARCS were custom-designed and incorporated into U-Links providing power level sampling capability without the need to modify the existing RF system components. With simple one-for-one replacement of the current system U-Links, the custom-designed Andrew U-Links provide the customer with an affordable system upgrade; one that does not require significant installation and modification costs.

"This is just one example of Andrew Corporation's ability to quickly engineer, design, test, and manufacture custom RF products," said Jim Levecque, Applications Engineer with Andrew Corporation's Passive Power Products Group. "We are very proud that we were able to custom design a product to meet ITT's needs and that this unique and economical solution is playing its small part in our national defense."
