Lightning Protection for Communications Systems In telecommunication, a communications system is a collection of individual communications networks, transmission systems, relay stations, tributary stations, and data terminal equipment (DTE) usually capable of interconnection and interoperation to form an integrated whole.

Andrew Corporation Andrew Corporation is an American multinational producer of communications devices. Andrew is a global designer, manufacturer, and supplier of communications equipment, services, and systems.  introduced Compact SureGround(TM) Grounding Kits to protect valuable communications equipment from the damaging and dangerous effects of lightning strikes lightning strike nhuelga relámpago

. These new one-piece grounding assemblies have the weatherproofing molded directly into the grounding strap. Their self-locking, self-sealing weatherproof boot eliminates the need for loose hardware and taping. During field-tests, it was found that the new grounding kits can save up to one hour of installation time at typical sites with nine runs of coaxial co·ax·i·al

The Compact SureGround Grounding Kit has the largest surface contact area (over 200 square mm) in the industry to provide better protection against even the most severe lightning strikes. The greater the contact surface area between a grounding kit and the coaxial cable's outer conductor, the lower the resulting current density at the interface and less chance of cable damage. Kits with smaller contact areas result in higher current densities, creating a greater risk of burning a hole in the coaxial cable. Andrew grounding kits are tested to withstand over 100,000 amps peak current.

The kit's patented snap and lock installation process is especially designed for ease of installation on tightly bundled coaxial cables or in areas with restricted space. The Compact SureGround kit is simply positioned and then "snapped and locked" to seal.

The kit comes complete with a universal grounding lug (1) (Linux Users Group) A formal or informal organization of Linux users who gather together virtually or in person to exchange information and resources. Some groups maintain mailing lists and send out newsletters for their members.  that can be connected to typical earthing busses with 1- or 2-hole attachment points.

Andrew Compact SureGround Grounding Kits meet MIL-STD-188-124A "Military Standard for Grounding, Bonding and Shielding" requirement of a maximum dc resistance of 0.001 ohms. They also comply with IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission, Geneva, Switzerland, www.iec.ch) An organization that sets international electrical and electronics standards founded in 1906. It is made up of national committees from over 60 countries.
