Andrew Corporation Builds First MMDS Broadband Wireless Internet System in Lima/Callao, Peru.

Andrew Corporation (NASDAQ:ANDW), a billion dollar manufacturer of broadband wireless products and turnkey communications systems, announced today that it has completed construction of the first broadband wireless network in South America. The new network brings the first high-speed, wireless data and Internet connections to Lima and Callao, Peru, a 2,300 square mile region with a population of over six million people. The South American network is the first to be built by Andrew for World Wide Wireless Communications (OTC BB: WLGS), which signed a potential $50 million systems integrator agreement with Andrew in March 2000.

As in most of North America and other countries around the world, businesses and individuals in South America crave high-speed access to data networks and the Internet. Unfortunately, it may take communications companies years to deploy or upgrade the wired infrastructure in these countries to support wired broadband technologies such as Digital Subscriber Lines (DSL) or cable modems. Broadband wireless networks simply require that an antenna transmit site be built on a tall building or hill, so customers with proper customer premises equipment can receive high-speed data transmissions from up to 35 miles away. Since the signal travels through the air on protected frequencies, there is no waiting for crews to dig up the streets to install wired infrastructure.

For customers who want high-speed data/Internet connections today, signing up for broadband wireless service is the quickest solution available in the Lima and Callao areas.
