Andrew Corporation Announces New Low-Cost Parabolic Dish Antennas and the ISM Protector.Business Editors ORLAND PARK, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 10, 2000 Andrew Corporation (NASDAQ NASDAQ in full National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotations U.S. market for over-the-counter securities. Established in 1971 by the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD), NASDAQ is an automated quotation system that reports on :ANDW) announced four new PD (Parabolic Dish) Series antennas and the ISM Protector, a combination bandpass filter and surge arrestor. Durable, low-cost PD Series antennas offer excellent performance for wireless LAN, point-to-point backhaul, and other communications services operating between 1.9 - 5.8 GHz. Models are available for the PCS (1) (Personal Communications Services) Refers to wireless services that emerged after the U.S. government auctioned commercial licenses in 1994 and 1995. This radio spectrum in the 1. , ISM, MMDS (Multichannel Multipoint Distribution Service or Microwave Multipoint Distribution Service) A digital wireless transmission system that works in the 2.2-2.4 GHz range. , and UNII UNII Unlicensed National Information Infrastructure UNII Undistributed Net Investment Income (closed-end mutual funds) (Unlicensed National Information Infrastructure) band operating frequencies. The new antennas have rugged spun aluminum parabolic reflectors for greater durability. Their design incorporates a new variation on the prime focus T-shaped dipole feed, a feature that has been taken from Andrew Corporation's field proven MAG GRID antenna series technology. The T-shaped dipole feed ensures superior return loss and radiation pattern performance. The 16 inch (40.6 cm) diameter PD Series antennas weigh 3.6 lb (mass1.63 kg) and their mounts weigh 1.5 lb (mass .68 kg). The small diameter of PD Series antennas helps to minimize their shipping and handling costs. A newly configured L-shaped mast-mounting bracket is compatible with up to a 2.5-inch (6.35 cm) pipe or tower leg diameter. The mount also provides up to 60 degrees of elevation tilt adjustment. Andrew also announced the ISM Protector, a versatile accessory made possible by a new design technology. This in-line unit provides bandpass filtering and a path to ground for lightning-induced surge pulses. The five-element design uses interdigital filter techniques for superior RF performance and manufacturing repeatability. The filter offers greater than 10 dB attenuation Loss of signal power in a transmission. Attenuation The reduction in level of a transmitted quantity as a function of a parameter, usually distance. It is applied mainly to acoustic or electromagnetic waves and is expressed as the ratio of power densities. 50 MHz (MegaHertZ) One million cycles per second. It is used to measure the transmission speed of electronic devices, including channels, buses and the computer's internal clock. A one-megahertz clock (1 MHz) means some number of bits (16, 32, 64, etc. out-of-band, and greater than 35 dB attenuation 100 MHz out-of-band with a typical insertion loss of less than 0.9 dB. The unit passes industry standard surge specifications. It can be mounted onto a flat surface, such as a roof or wall, or bulkhead mounted into an equipment rack or outdoor radio unit.
