Because it is a non-powered device and requires no insertion tool the MAU 8216 Plus can be used in a wide variety of locations to construct cost-effective, dependable, Token Ring local area networks. Workstations can simply be plugged into the MAUs, which can be connected together to expand the Token Ring.

Fully compatible with the IBM Token Ring network A LAN access method that uses the token passing technology in a physical ring. Each station in the network passes the token on to the station next to it. Token Ring and FDDI LANs use the token ring access method. See Token Ring, FDDI and token passing. , the MAU 8216 Plus may be used alone or in conjunction with other IBM MAUs. All Andrew MAUs feature easy-to-read diagnostic displays and can be mounted easily on walls, shelves or racks.

Key features of the MAU 8216 Plus are:

--Requires no air conditioning or AC power, enabling installation in a variety of locations, such as warehouses and closets.

--Status LED (Light Emitting Diode See LED. ) on all lobe ports providing a visual indication of connection status. LEDs are powered by the attached Token Ring adapters.

--Battery-powered reset button. The lithium battery-powered reset button allows the manual reset of all lobe circuits. This eliminates the need for an insertion or alignment tool during installation.

--Autowrap ring-in and ring-out ports dispense with the need for wrap plugs. Both DC (MIC) and RJ45 versions of the Plus product family can automatically detect the removal of a cable and wrap the ring-in or ring-out ports.

--Shielded RJ45 lobe connectors provide support for UTP UTP (uridine triphosphate): see uracil.
