Established in 1971 by the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD), NASDAQ is an automated quotation system that reports on :ANDW) acquired the remaining 30% equity in its Andrew Industria e Comercio Ltda and Andrew Comercio e Servicos Ltda subsidiaries. The transaction was for a cash amount that has not been disclosed. Andrew originally acquired 51% of both companies on December 5, 1995 and raised its interest to 70% on 30 October, 1997. Following the 1995 acquisition, Andrew built a plant on 11 acres of the Sorocaba campus, adjacent to the existing site that manufactures terrestrial microwave antennas. The new building accommodates the manufacturing of wireless RF path products such as: HELIAX(R) coaxial cable, connectors, accessories, surge arrestors, and base station antennas. The new Sorocaba plant began cable production in June 1996 and is the successful hub of Andrew Corporation's South American manufacturing activity. In fiscal year 2000, Andrew Corporation's orders in Latin America grew by 43%, driven by wireless infrastructure expansion in Argentina, Brazil, and Mexico. Last year, wireless subscribers in Latin America grew by over 70% to more than 70 million, and the upcoming wireless license award in Brazil will further expand Andrew Corporation's growth opportunities.
