An Associate Professor of Technology Management at the Graduate School of Management at University of California, Davis The University of California, Davis, commonly known as UC Davis, is one of the ten campuses of the University of California, and was established as the University Farm in 1905. , Professor Hargadon is an expert in energy efficiency, alternative energy technologies, technology management, management of innovation, entrepreneurship and new product development and author of How Breakthroughs Happen: The Surprising Truth About How Companies Innovate (Harvard Business School Harvard Business School, officially named the Harvard Business School: George F. Baker Foundation, and also known as HBS, is one of the graduate schools of Harvard University.  Press 2003). Professor Hargadon is founding Director of both the Center for Entrepreneurship and the Energy Efficiency Center at University of California, Davis.

Professor Hargadon's research focuses on the effective management of innovation and the strategic role of design in managing technology transitions, particularly in the development and commercialization of sustainable technologies. He has written extensively on knowledge and technology brokering and the role of learning and knowledge management in innovation and has published numerous articles and chapters in leading scholarly and applied publications, including Harvard Business Review Harvard Business Review is a general management magazine published since 1922 by Harvard Business School Publishing, owned by the Harvard Business School. A monthly research-based magazine written for business practitioners, it claims a high ranking business readership and , Administrative Science Quarterly Administrative Science Quarterly, founded in 1956, is one of the most eminent academic journals in the field of organizational studies. It is published by Cornell University.

, Organization Science, California Management Review and Research in Organizational Behavior. Professor Hargadon also serves on the editorial board of Administrative Science Quarterly, Organization Science, Organization Studies, and the Academy of Management Review. His research has been used to develop or guide new innovation programs in organizations as diverse as the Canadian Health Services health services Managed care The benefits covered under a health contract , Silicon Valley start-ups, Hewlett-Packard and the US Navy. He also teaches corporate executive programs and serves on the advisory boards of several start-up companies.

Professor Hargadon 44, received his Ph.D. from the Management Science and Engineering Department in Stanford University's School of Engineering, where he was named Boeing Fellow and Sloan Foundation Sloan Foundation, fund established (1934) by automobile executive Alfred P. Sloan, Jr. as a philanthropic institution supporting research in various areas. In its early years it stressed support of U.S. economic education and research.  Future Professor of Manufacturing. He received his B.S. and M.S. in Stanford University's Product Design Program in the Mechanical Engineering Department. Prior to his academic appointment, Professor Hargadon served as a design engineer at IDEO Product Development and Apple Computer and taught in the Product Design program at Stanford University Stanford University, at Stanford, Calif.; coeducational; chartered 1885, opened 1891 as Leland Stanford Junior Univ. (still the legal name). The original campus was designed by Frederick Law Olmsted. David Starr Jordan was its first president. .
