Loxley will equip the Royal Thai Navy The Royal Thai Navy (Thai: กองทัพเรือ) is the navy of Thailand and was established in the late 1800s.  with three Andrew HF antennas to boost ship-to-shore communications. The installation is due for completion in mid 2001.

The new antennas -- which will be installed in Chachaungsao in the east and Nakornpanom in northeast Thailand -- will enable the Royal Thai Navy to replace its old, analog, voice-only communications system with a new, digital system that carries both voice and data and provides access to its intranet and the Internet. The antennas will enable navy personnel to have communications coverage over a 500km radius - from the Indian Ocean to the South China Sea and Guam.

"By positioning these antennas at strategic points around Thailand's coastline, the navy's shore-based personnel can communicate quickly and easily with the fleet whenever vessels are on maneuvers," said Bunpot Anantawat, assistant vice president of Loxley's transmission system department.

"They will also provide efficient ship-to-ship communications and will enable personnel to send and receive e-mail and keep up-to-date on internal issues via the navy's intranet. The navy also plans to move several of its administrative applications to the Internet to help streamline its operations."

Each of the antennas produces up to 1 kilowatt of power compared with the 100 watts produced by the previous system. This not only increases the offshore range of the fleet but also helps to support the high-speed, multimedia applications that the navy is introducing.

The HF antennas, which bounce signals off the earth's atmosphere, are especially suitable for extreme climatic conditions, especially during the typhoon typhoon: see hurricane.  season in Thailand.

"These antennas will provide the Royal Thai Navy with excellent performance for high-density data, voice communications, network and broadcast applications," said Volker Lange, Andrew Corporation's director and general manager for South East Asia, Australia and New Zealand New Zealand (zē`lənd), island country (2005 est. pop. 4,035,000), 104,454 sq mi (270,534 sq km), in the S Pacific Ocean, over 1,000 mi (1,600 km) SE of Australia.
