:ANDW) announced the Amarra(TM) line of fiber feeder cables for fiber-fed, remotely mounted base station radios. Amarra cables include three copper wires for power connections and from one to twelve single-mode or multimode optical fibers for signal connections. The new cables may be integrated quickly with the existing wireless infrastructure for use on communications towers, rooftops, and monopoles, they can also be buried underground. Amarra cables are an excellent choice for 2.5G and 3G fiber-fed installations that also require power from a central source. Typical fiber-fed system applications include: CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) A method for transmitting simultaneous signals over a shared portion of the spectrum. The foremost application of CDMA is the digital cellular phone technology from QUALCOMM that operates in the 800 MHz band and 1.9 GHz PCS band. , WCDMA (Wideband CDMA) A 3G high-speed digital data service provided by cellular carriers that use the TDMA or GSM technology worldwide, including AT&T (formerly Cingular) and T-Mobile in the U.S. , TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access) A satellite and cellular phone technology that interleaves multiple digital signals onto a single high-speed channel. For cellular, TDMA triples the capacity of the original analog method (FDMA). ; Pico, Micro, and Macro base stations; and fiber-fed repeaters.

Allowable limits are governed by the FCC. ). This combination also provides weatherproofing and maximum protection for the optical fibers.

For ease of installation and maximum performance, the new Amarra cables are available with ST(R), FC, SC, or FC/APC (single-mode only) factory-installed fiber-optic connectors. Standard Amarra cable assemblies come complete with attached connectors and equipment entry fittings that are completely weatherproof for the highest level of water-blocking.

A cable assembly kit is available; this includes assemblies with entry fitting, connectors, hangers, junction box, and attached hoisting grip. An optional junction box is also available, this organizes and terminates the copper conductors and stores coiled excess lengths of copper wiring and fiber.

Andrew also offers Amarra cable with an ultra-flexible outer jacket, with or without EMI shielding. These versions of Amarra cable are suitable for sites where the cable is installed in conduits.

All Amarra cables have a full 10-year warranty. For further information on Amarra cables, call Andrew Corporation at 1-800-255-1479 and request bulletin number 10523. This bulletin is also available from the Andrew Corporation On-Line Document Center at www.andrew.com.
