Andrew's jailhouse laughs made him howl at the moon; ANDREW MAXWELL COMEDY PREVIEW.

Byline: JONATHAN TREW

NEARLY 30 years after Johnny Cash recorded his iconic live album at San Quentin State Prison San Quentin State Prison is located on 432 acres (1.7 km²) on Point Quentin in Marin County, California, United States, north of San Francisco. San Quentin State Prison was opened in July 1852, and is the oldest prison in California. , Irish comic Andrew Maxwell has done something similar at Dublin's Mountjoy jail.

"I did a gig and recorded an album there but let's not get carried away with the Johnny Cash comparisons," laughs the comic, who was nominated for last year's If. Comedy Awards. "I take the p**s out of myself for those delusions of grandeur Noun 1. delusions of grandeur - a delusion (common in paranoia) that you are much greater and more powerful and influential than you really are
delusion, psychotic belief - (psychology) an erroneous belief that is held in the face of evidence to the contrary
."

Having played two gigs on the same day for both sides of the community in Belfast, Maxwell is no stranger to hard-to-please audiences but being locked down with the inmates is a good contender for the title of toughest gig.

"It was hairy," he says, "but like any gig there is always something you can use to open up the crowd. Prisoners love a screw joke." A regular face on the Fringe On The Fringe is a popular Pakistani television show on Indus Music. It is hosted and scripted by the eccentric television host and music critic, Fasi Zaka and directed by Zeeshan Pervez.  for the last seven years, Maxwell's gigs usually centre on his taste for late night, booze-fuelled adventures.

Called Full Mooners, Maxwell promises it will be a riot. "When you are all howling at the moon together it loosens people up," he reckons.
