Andrea Fraser.HAMBURGER KUNSTVEREIN Organized by Kunstverein director Yilmaz Dziewior, this sampling of roughly forty works produced by Andrea Fraser Fraser, city, United StatesFraser, city (1990 pop. 13,899), Macomb co., SE Mich., a suburb of Detroit; inc. as a village 1894, as a city 1957. Automated machine tools and steel products are manufactured there.Fraser, river, CanadaFraser, chief river of British Columbia, Canada, c.850 mi (1,370 km) long. It rises in the Rocky Mts., at Yellowhead Pass, near the British Columbia–Alta. since the mid-'80s is the artist's largest show to date. With a catalogue containing essays by Dzicwior, George Baker, and Anke Kempkes and a compilation of Fraser's own extensive writings, the last fifteen years of one particularly versatile strain of institutional critique will be open to scrutiny. Fraser's work, which ranges from the quietly cerebral to the spectacularly performative, has had a lot to say about how this genre evolved through the '90s. Typically characterized by an intelligent, incisive humor, over the years her practice has become increasingly self-critical, a sure sign that she hasn't lost her edge. Sept. 13-Nov. 9. |
