James anderson today insisted he will remain patient and wait for his chance to reclaim his England Test place having given a glimpse of a possible return to form in a rare outing for the tourists yesterday.

Since his arrival with the England squad in the Caribbean, the Lancashire seamer has only featured in the opening warm-up match against Jamaica a month ago until returning with a new desire and enthusiasm yesterday to claim two for 30 as the Carib Beer XI, made up of West Indies' best emerging cricketers, were dismissed for 129 in only 48.2 overs.

His display will have cheered England's management, who were equally pleased with Marcus Trescothick claiming his first half-century in the Caribbean as the tourists reached 121 for three by the close of the opening day, even if it does not alter their selection plans for the third Test at the Kensington Oval next Thursday.

"It has been a strange trip not being out there playing, so it was good to be out there," said Anderson, who was relegated to the role of spectator as Durham paceman Steve Harmison and Simon Jones bowled England to famous Test victories in Kingston and Port-of-Spain.
