Ando Corporation announced today that it will exhibit several new industry leading products at this year's Supercomm in Atlanta, June 4th - 6th at booth #31728. The products on display will include the AQ8465 DWDM Passive Component Analyzer series; AQ7560 Chromatic Dispersion Analyzer; AQ6317C Optical Spectrum Analyzer; AP9950 Pulse Pattern Generator and AP9951 Error Detector Bit Error Rate Tester; and AU1500 IP Core Network Probe.

"Ando is very excited to take advantage of this year's Supercomm to highlight several of our new and cutting edge communications test products," says Muneaki Horikawa, President of Ando Corporation. "Ando continues to be at the forefront of providing high-speed, high precision, and robust functionality equipment. As our new product line-up illustrates, wherever there are advanced communication test needs -- in the lab, manufacturing facility, or IP core network -- you will find Ando equipment."

AQ8465 DWDM Passive Component Analyzer series

The AQ8465 series offers manufactures and R&D labs a new approach for fast and accurate characterization of optical passive components for DWDM systems. Taking measurement to a new level, the AQ8465 combines Ando's world-class tunable laser, super stable optical power meter and analysis functions in one unit. The AQ8465 can simultaneously perform the measurement and analysis of spectral attenuation Loss of signal power in a transmission.

The reduction in level of a transmitted quantity as a function of a parameter, usually distance. It is applied mainly to acoustic or electromagnetic waves and is expressed as the ratio of power densities.

Main features of the AQ8465 include:

-- High wavelength accuracy (no greater than +/- 3pm in C- and L-band, 1500-1630 nm)
-- High wavelength resolution (15 pm)

-- Faster measurement speed (two times faster than the previous

The optional AQ8465-83 is designed for enhancing the AQ8465's PDL See page description language.

measurement capabilities, making the AQ8465 and AQ8465-83 the perfect combination. The AQ8465-83 delivers a wide working wavelength range (1500-1630nm) and is fully controlled by the AQ8465 mainframe to allow for adjustment free operation.

AQ7560 Chromatic Dispersion Analyzer

Visitors to Ando's booth will also get an advanced look at the upcoming AQ7560 Chromatic Dispersion Analyzer. The AQ7560 delivers breakthrough performance with a wealth of advanced features that make complex CD measurements simple and easy. The AQ7560 provides high performance chromatic dispersion measurement for optical fiber, dispersion compensation devices, grating, and other similar optical components. It is the ideal system for R&D and manufacturing quality control with great performance and testing speed.

AQ6317C Optical Spectrum Analyzer (OSA)

Ando's new AQ6317C Optical Spectrum Analyzer, the successor to its current best-selling OSA, packs the power of cutting-edge technologies and user-oriented advanced analysis features. The AQ6317C is the logical evolution from the AQ6317B and will set the testing standard for measuring complex optical communication networks.

New features of the AQ6317C include:

-- Higher wavelength accuracy (+/- 0.1 nm at full range 600-1750 nm; +/- 0.02 to +/- 0.04 nm at 1450-1620 nm)

-- High wavelength linearity (+/- 0.01 nm for C-band and +/- 0.02 nm for S- and L-band)

-- High wavelength resolution (15 pm)

-- Faster measurement speed (two times faster than the previous

model at highest sensitivity mode)

The AQ6317C also adds a template check function for "Go/No Go" testing, an external gas cell calibration function, new curve fitting, and SSE (1) An earlier full-screen editor in OS/2.

(2) (Streaming SIMD Extensions) A series of additional instructions built into Pentium CPU chips for improved multimedia performance by performing mathematical operations on multiple sets of data at the

AP9950 Pulse Pattern Generator and AP9951 Error Detector Bit Error Rate Tester

The recently released 43.5 Gbit/s AP9950 Pulse Pattern Generator and AP9951 Error Detector Bit Error Rate Test (BERT) sets were produced in cooperation with Yokogawa Electric Corporation. At 2/3 the size of their conventional predecessors, the AP9950 and AP9951 are the world's smallest stand-alone BERTs for evaluating high-speed devices and optical components for 40 Gbit/s optical transmission systems. The AP9950 and AP9951 are able to function independently or jointly as a complete BERT set for testing devices and systems operating from 36 Gbit/s to 43.5 Gbit/s. The single-box, stand-alone design of both units does away with cumbersome connections between multiple test systems, thereby providing a simplified configuration, superior waveform quality and low power consumption.

The AP9950 and AP9951 can operate as a 40 Gbit/s BERT or as a 4 discrete 10 Gbit/s BERT sets capable of transmitting and detecting 4 different 10 Gbit/s serial patterns for MUX/DEMUX testing. The units provide a variety of test patterns (PRBS PRBS Pseudo-Random Binary Sequence

frame pattern, and programmable patterns up to 8 Mbits in length, etc.), input / output adjustment functionality (Output Level Adjustment, Offset and Phase adjustment and Inverted output, etc.) and full remote control capabilities.

AU1500 IP Core Network Probe

Seeking to capitalize on its expertise in very high-speed test and measurement, a relatively new direction for Ando is IP core network monitoring solutions. The first product in this new line-up is the AU1500 IP Core Network Probe.

The AU1500 is the industry's first probe to offer detailed layer 2 to 7 monitoring for high-speed IP core networks. The AU1500's statistics reporting capabilities encompass standard RMON (Remote MONitoring) Enhancements to the management information base (MIB) structure used by the simple network management protocol (SNMP). In 1991, RMON added comprehensive network monitoring capabilities. 2 reporting (packet and byte counts by application protocols, nlHost/alHost, nlMatrix/alMatrix, priority, TopN, User History, and much more) and, along with Ando's recently announced MPLS (1) (MultiProtocol Lambda Switching) The earlier name for GMPLS. See GMPLS.

(2) (MultiProtocol Label Switching) A standard from the IETF for including routing information in the packets of an IP network.
software upgrade, also offers an unsurpassed level of MPLS VPN and MPLS LSP LSP - Label Switched Path  statistics support. Since the AU1500 is a passive monitoring device based on a unique hardware-accelerated design, it can provide this unprecedented depth of statistical information at wire-speed and in real time up to OC-48c (2.5 Gbit/s) without impacting router performance or adding additional points of failure into the network.

Applications for the AU1500 include: advanced SLA management; traffic engineering; LSP and route sizing; capacity planning based on real time statistics; network health and management; usage based billing between peering providers; and advanced MPLS management.
