Andigilog(R) Adds Two New Thermal Management Solutions for PCs and Servers, Including Support for Intel Platform Environmental Control Interface (PECI) Interface.

Andigilog aSC7621 and aSC7611 Thermal Management System Controllers Integrate Fan Control with High Accuracy Temperature Sensing for Better System Performance

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Andigilog([R]), the fabless semiconductor company A fabless semiconductor company specializes in the design and sale of hardware devices implemented on semiconductor chips. It achieves an advantage by outsourcing the fabrication of the devices to a specialized semiconductor manufacturer called a semiconductor foundry or "fab.  providing intelligent thermal management solutions, today announced the aSC7621 and the aSC7611 thermal management system controllers with integrated fan control.

Both devices are based on the Andigilog ThermalEdge([TM]) technology, which enables accurate temperature sensing, precision system control and acoustic and cooling management for computer subsystems. Andigilog's highly accurate sensing allows both devices to enable much quieter systems, optimize systems performance and improve reliability.

"Thermal management in desktops and servers continues to be a critical issue for manufacturers, IT administrators and users," noted Bill Sheppard, president and chief executive officer of Andigilog. "Andigilog's unique, highly accurate temperature sensing approach, integrated with intelligent control of thermal management subsystems, gives manufacturers an efficient and cost-effective way to reduce heat and increase system performance."

Andigilog's introduction of the aSC7611 and aSC7621 allows customers to choose a variety of solutions for thermal sensing and fan management. At the heart of the new thermal management system controllers is Andigilog's unique sensing technology that enables accurate temperature measurements. With resolution of 1/4 of a degree of temperature, Andigilog products have the ability to output smaller pulse-width modulation Pulse-width modulation (PWM) of a signal or powersource involves the modulation of its duty cycle, to either convey information over a communications channel or control the amount of power sent to a load.  increments, which means the changes in fan speed are no longer limited to coarse steps.

In addition, Andigilog has created support for the emerging Platform Environmental Control Interface, or PECI, created by Intel and expected to be implemented in future desktop PCs and servers. PECI is a new digital interface that enables communication of the temperature reading of a system's host processor, enabling efficient platform thermal control. This digital thermometer capability of PECI will co-exist with remote diode interfaces now used in most systems.

"Like Simple Serial Transport (SST SST: see airplane. ), PECI contributes significantly to managing thermal issues more efficiently. Devices to support PECI will enable manufacturers to offer systems that operate at optimum performance more quietly, while consuming less power," said Damon Oresky, chipset product marketing manager for Intel Corporation (company) Intel Corporation - A US microelectronics manufacturer. They produced the Intel 4004, Intel 8080, Intel 8086, Intel 80186, Intel 80286, Intel 80386, Intel 486 and Pentium microprocessor families as well as many other integrated circuits and personal computer networking .

Andigilog aSC7611 and aSC7621 Features

Both the aSC7621 and the aSC7611 are compliant with SMBus 2.0 and include support for three fans, four fan tachometer tachometer (tăkŏm`ətər), instrument that indicates the speed, usually in revolutions per minute, at which an engine shaft is rotating.  inputs, voltage monitoring, high- and low-speed PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) A modulation technique that generates variable-width pulses to represent the amplitude of an analog input signal. Like its fixed-width pulse density modulation (PDM) cousin, the output switching transistor is on more of the time for a  (pulse width modulation See PWM. ) and assignment of temperature zones. They both support system management features including shutdown mode to reduce power consumption, the ability to lock critical controls after initialization in·i·tial·ize

Both devices also support Intel's automatic fan speed control algorithm that enables independent fan control apart from the system BIOS The BIOS on a PC motherboard.
