Anderson drives in 10 runs

Garret Anderson drove in a club-record 10 runs for the Los Angeles Angels against the New York Yankees on Tuesday night _ all in the first six innings.

Anderson hit a grand slam, a three-run homer, a two-run double and an RBI double to become the first major leaguer with 10 RBIs in a game since Alex Rodriguez did it for the Yankees against the Angels on April 26, 2005.

Anderson also became the 12th player in major league history to accomplish the feat.

The big league record of 12 RBIs is shared by the St. Louis Cardinals' Jim Bottomley (1924) and Mark Whiten (1993). The AL record of 11 was set by Tony Lazzeri of the Yankees on May 24, 1936.

Anderson had a chance to break the major league mark when he came up in the eighth inning with runners at the corners and two outs, but he grounded out to shortstop.

His eighth career grand slam came against Sean Henn in the sixth for an 18-5 lead. The 18 runs were the most the Angels had ever scored against the Yankees.

Anderson hit his three-run shot in the third off Edwar Ramirez. The slugger had a two-run double off Mike Mussina in the first inning, then drove in another run with a double against Mussina in the second.

Vladimir Guerrero set the previous Angels record when he drove in nine runs in a 2004 game against Boston.
