) today announced powerful new RAID storage systems, storage management software, and the industry's first Ultra2 SCSI See Ultra SCSI.  LVD See LVDS.

LVD - Low Voltage Differential
(Low Voltage Differential (hardware) Low Voltage Differential - (LVD) A method of driving SCSI cables that will be formalised in the SCSI-3 specifications. LVD uses less power than the current differential drive (HVD), is less expensive and will allow the higher speeds of Ultra-2 SCSI. LVD requires 3. ) intelligent storage enclosure. The new products are high-performance extensions of ANDATACO's Application-Specific Architecture (ASA Asa (ā`sə), in the Bible, king of Judah, son and successor of Abijah. He was a good king, zealous in his extirpation of idols. When Baasha of Israel took Ramah (a few miles N of Jerusalem), Asa bought the help of Benhadad of Damascus and ), the design process that specifically matches storage features to the individual data patterns of target applications in today's data-intensive NT & UNIX UNIX

 environments.

Two complementary new solutions reflect ANDATACO's storage strategy, each one optimized for a different data structure and environment: GigaRAID/HA is the industry's fastest RAID solution in its class for RDBMS/OLTP, and GigaRAID/AA is the most scalable RAID system in its class for massive data warehouses, digital video graphics and technology development applications.

GigaRAID/HA

Designed with the needs of database administrators in mind, GigaRAID/HA's Database RAID(TM), Multi-LUN RAID 5, and parity-only striping Interleaving or multiplexing data to increase speed. See disk striping.

features allow complete control over data placement, thereby eliminating the bottlenecks that degrade performance in traditional RAID storage. New enhancements extend the advantages of the first generation GigaRAID/HA which was well received by the database/OLTP user community because of its industry-leading performance and availabilty to mission critical data.

The enhanced GigaRAID/HA provides up to three times the performance of traditional RAID storage in Oracle, Sybase and Informix relational databases, as well as in Microsoft NT, Windows NT (Windows New Technology) A 32-bit operating system from Microsoft for Intel x86 CPUs. NT is the core technology in Windows 2000 and Windows XP (see Windows). Available in separate client and server versions, it includes built-in networking and preemptive multitasking.  Exchange and SQL server An earlier relational DBMS from Sybase and from Microsoft. Sybase introduced SQL Server in 1988 for various Unix versions. In that same year, with help from IBM, Sybase created an OS/2 version that Microsoft licensed and branded as Microsoft SQL Server.  environments. Recent tests of the GigaRAID/HA at a major software company have yielded excellent results for up to 10,000 Exchange users.

GigaRAID/HA, with up to 18 multi-platform host connections, and up to 1.5 TB in a single data center, offers extremely high levels of scalability. The new optional DUALGUARD(TM) software feature provides upstream I/O (Input/Output) The transfer of data between the CPU and a peripheral device. Every transfer is an output from one device and an input to another. See PC input/output.

systems. In addition, the GigaRAID/HA allows multi-RAID configurations in one dual controller system to provide a new level of performance and flexibility in target applications. A new workgroup model is ideal for NT environments.

ANDATACO's Senior Vice President of Marketing Arun Taneja commented, "In the past, DBAs had to compromise the performance of a database if they wanted 100% data availability Refers to the degree to which data can be instantly accessed. The term is mostly associated with service levels that are set up either by the internal IT organization or that may be guaranteed by a third party datacenter or storage provider.  at a reasonable price. This is no longer true. With GigaRAID/HA, a DBA can follow all the database vendor rules for data placement and still enjoy 100% data availability at an industry-leading cost per MB. This is a dream come true for DBAs who want it all in one solution: performance, availability and low cost."

systems to a standstill. ANDATACO storage provides the required performance and guaranteed reliability. In addition, GigaRAID/HA's Database-RAID(TM) functionality allows us to perform database optimizations that would not be possible with other RAID solutions. Pricing was significantly lower than competing products, and the easy expandability of ANDATACO systems will accommodate AFC's future storage needs."

GigaRAID/AA

Consistent with ANDATACO's Application-Specific Architecture, and designed as a complement to the GigaRAID/HA, the GigaRAID/AA offers customers a RAID solution designed and optimized for digital video, data warehouses, seismic and technology development applications. With Ultra SCSI The designation for various high-speed SCSI interfaces. The original specification was Ultra SCSI, followed by Ultra2, Ultra3, etc. For details, see SCSI.  dual active/active controllers and Ultra 2 LVD-ready chassis, GigaRAID/AA provides performance and functionality usually reserved for much higher-cost RAID systems.

With up to 4 Ultra SCSI backend buses in the GigaRAID/AA and a choice of 4, 9 or 18 GB disk drives, the customer can configure up to 10 hosts and up to1.8 TB in a single data center cabinet. A single GigaRAID/AA storage system can support up to 56 drives, equaling a full terabyte of storage.

The GigaRAID/AA features ANDATACO's LVD-ready enclosure for customers' easy transition, with investment protection, to the speed and connectivity advantages of Ultra2 LVD interface technology. Since the GigaRAID/AA is a superset A group of commands or functions that exceed the capabilities of the original specification. Software or hardware components designed for the original specification will also operate with the superset product. However, components designed for the superset will not work with the original.  of the GigaRAID/SX system with far superior scalability and functionality, it effectively replaces the G/SX as a premier solution for large block, sequential applications.

Client/S and Web Storage Manager 3.0

ANDATACO's new storage systems are supported by innovative storage management software, Client/S for GigaRAID/HA and Web Storage Manager for GigaRAID/AA. Client/S features enterprise-centric asset management software for proactive monitoring, control, configuration and service notification. Web Storage Manager 3.0 is the next generation of ANDATACO's WSM/RMU, the industry's first web-based storage management tool. Rewritten in Java, network-centric Web Storage Manager proactively monitors, controls, configures and services GigaRAID/AA storage through a Netscape browser See Netscape.  across the intranet and internet from any point in the enterprise. Both systems report problems via E-Mail for advanced warning of potential problems, and forward messages to ANDATACO's Services Department through a phone-home feature for rapid notification and response.

GigaRAID/LVD

GigaRAID/8000 LVD, the industry's first Ultra2 SCSI Low Voltage Differential (LVD) RAID-ready storage system, incorporates the next generation of ANDATACO's award-winning Enterprise Storage Packaging (ESP (1) (Enhanced Service Provider) An organization that adds value to basic telephone service by offering such features as call-forwarding, call-detailing and protocol conversion. ).
