Byline: Leah M. Lamson

A toast! Grab a drink and raise your glass to the winners in our first Best of Worcester Living contest. It's always good to hear what you think about the dining, entertainment and nightlife night·life

this area has to offer. It's validating in a way because many of the winners in our 50 or so categories have already graced the pages of the magazine in one way or another. You've told us what we already know; the area is second to none for places to eat, drink, shop, listen to music, buy a suit, get a couch, see a movie, go dancing or work out.

It's especially exciting this time of year to get out and enjoy the outdoor cafes, concerts and other events. And, if our list of winners doesn't give you some ideas of places to go, there's plenty of other content that will. Like our stories on Lake Quinsigamond Lake Quinsigamond (also Long Pond) is a body of water situated between the city of Worcester and the town of Shrewsbury in Worcester County, Massachusetts, USA. It is 4 miles (6 km) long, between 50 and 85 feet (15 and 26 m) deep, and has a surface area of approximately  and the area's best golf courses. There's no better time to take in the cool breezes on a lake or the lush greenery of a golf course than these summer months.

If you want to venture outside the area, play the part of a tourist and visit Lizzie Borden's home in Fall River. A little closer to home, discover the Central Mass. connection to the Dixon pencil out at Tantiusques Reservation in Sturbridge.

Farther away, take a trip to Austria where you learn about a divine wine.

A word of warning here, though. As you browse through the rest of the pages, you might not want to do it on an empty stomach. The beautiful photos of ripe red tomatoes and plump blueberries will have your mouth watering in no time. Even the lavender lavender, common name for any plant of the genus Lavandula, herbs or shrubby plants of the family Labiatae (mint family), most of which are native to the Mediterranean region but naturalized elsewhere. A couple of other things to mention. First, don't miss the latest additions to our Web site, www.worcesterliving.com. You'll find slide-shows from the area's social events with even more photos than we publish here. There's also a blog by wine writer Anthony Manifold manifold
