" lifestyle centers which rely on diversity of products and services offered, as well as shopping convenience to entice busy, two-income professional families who are unable or unwilling to spend a lot of time on shopping. Relatively rare in this area, lifestyle centers are growing in number and interest as a viable alternative to the giant regional malls. The typical lifestyle center offers 100,000 to 200,000 square feet of retail space - about 10 percent to 20 percent of the size of most regional malls. Without the "anchors" which themselves could occupy more than 100,000 square feet - the overall retail experience is more intimate, interesting and aesthetically pleasing. Many of the products and services offered are tailored to the retail requirements of modern living. Since parking is in much closer proximity to the stores, customers can spend less time and energy on shopping. The lifestyle concept may also include restaurants and entertainment-related types of retail such as movie theaters. Soon to be under construction is a Sunrise Sunrise, city (1990 pop. 64,407), Broward co., SE Fla., a residential suburb 8 mi (13 km) W of Fort Lauderdale; inc. 1961 as Sunrise Golf Village.
