Anchorage Awarded $2.4 Million Grant.The U.S. Department of Labor recently announced the Municipality MUNICIPALITY. The body of officers, taken collectively, belonging to a city, who are appointed to manage its affairs and defend its interests. of Anchorage Anchorage (ăng`kərĭj), city (1990 pop. 226,338), Anchorage census div., S central Alaska, a port at the head of Cook Inlet; inc. 1920. will receive a $2.425 million grant to train workers nationwide for high skill jobs in places where companies are facing shortages in those fields. The grants, totaling $29.1 million across the country, are funded by a portion of the $500 fee employers pay for each visa to import temporary workers from other countries. The Municipality of Anchorage grant will provide training for 300 people for jobs in computer systems analysis, computer software engineering, electrical/electronic engineering and sales and marketing. The grant will help meet the demand for such workers in the telecommunications Communicating information, including data, text, pictures, voice and video over long distance.
