Anawave Software Announces Purchase of Award Winning Internet Newsreader Application; Anawave Acquires MicroPlanet's Gravity for Windows 95/NT.

Manufactures include electrical and medical equipment, computers, boats, and adhesives. , Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 17, 1996--Anawave Software Inc., a pacesetting Internet service and software company, today announced an agreement with MicroPlanet, Inc., a software development company, to acquire its Gravity off-line newsreader A client program that is used to read messages from Internet-based discussion groups (the venerable Usenet) or syndication feeds such as RSS and Atom. Some programs provide a search and organization tool for both newsgroups and feeds as well as local e-mail messages, contacts and other  application.

Anawave has acquired from MicroPlanet the rights to the Gravity newsreader product and its technology. The Company plans to introduce Gravity version 1.1, a significant upgrade, and distribute it electronically in January under the Anawave brand.

Under the terms of the agreement, MicroPlanet will continue to develop the Gravity product and technology in conjunction with Anawave's product development team for the duration of two years. The companies also will work together to integrate the newsreader technology in future Anawave software applications.

Gravity is a rules-based USENET newsreader that allows the user to filter information from the thousands of newsgroups This is a list of newsgroups that are significant for their popularity or their position in Usenet history.

As of October 2002, there are about 100,000 Usenet newsgroups, of which approximately a fifth are active.
 on the Internet. Users are able to sort through information on newsgroups by defining specific actions to be automatically implemented by the Gravity product. These responses include activities such as retrieving specific articles, throwing away articles, saving articles to specific directories or files, or forwarding articles on a special topic to specific addresses.

Gravity fully supports off-line reading, allowing the user to continue to work while the program is searching and retrieving articles. The user can then read the articles at their leisure, and not have to sort through useless information.

Gravity 1.1 will be available in January for $29.95 through Anawave's Web site at http://www.anawave.com . This upgraded version will be available for free to all registered Gravity 1.0 users. As with all Anawave Software products, users can download Gravity 1.1 for a 30-day free trial.
