Anatel Communications Introduces Scalable MGCP Gateway; Product Demonstration at SUPERCOMM 2000.Business/Technology Editors SUPERCOMM 2000 PEABODY, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 5, 2000 Anatel Communications Corporation announces the Media Bearer family of MGCP See MGCP/MEGACO. MGCP - Media Gateway Control Protocol 1.0 compliant media gateways for building highly scalable telecommunications infrastructures. The gateways are tailored for Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) applications, utilizing decomposed de·com·pose v. de·com·posed, de·com·pos·ing, de·com·pos·es v.tr. 1. To separate into components or basic elements. 2. To cause to rot. v.intr. 1. gateways. The Media Bearer gateway family features four members distinguished by channel capacity, the MB-24, -48, -96, and -192, which handle all aspects of carrying phone calls between the circuit-switched and packet-switched networks. The decomposed media gateway architecture yields significant advantages to integrators by easing the problems of management, expansion and obsolescence ob·so·les·cent adj. 1. Being in the process of passing out of use or usefulness; becoming obsolete. 2. Biology Gradually disappearing; imperfectly or only slightly developed. in three ways: a) The gateway requires very little configuration or management because it is a slave to its controller; b) network expansion can be as simple as installing another media gateway; c) gateways integrate a standard, IP-based control protocol so that installed media gateway controllers will be able to interoperate with new, higher-density, lower-cost media gateways as they evolve. Anatel Communications will demonstrate the new Media Bearer family, including gateway-compatible DSP (1) (Digital Signal Processor) A special-purpose CPU used for digital signal processing applications (see definition #2 below). It provides ultra-fast instruction sequences, such as shift and add, and multiply and add, which are commonly used in math-intensive resource boards, at SUPERCOMM 2000, booth #8207. "It's simple for an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) The rebranding of equipment and selling it. The term initially referred to the company that made the products (the "original" manufacturer), but eventually became widely used to refer to the organization that buys the products and to quickly scale up from a small system," commented David Fridley, Director of Marketing for Anatel. "By providing the bearer part of the decomposed gateway, we enable customers to exploit the inherent advantages of these architectures. This method of call setup/teardown will become widely accepted as customers realize the benefits, such as minimal system management and simple network expansion." Gateways can scale from 24 - 10,000+ ports and are available in 1U and 2U rack-mountable chassis. They feature one to eight T1 trunks; 24, 48, 96, or 192 channels of Voice over IP; and 10/100BaseT Ethernet. Voice compression via G.723.1, G729a, and T.38 for FAX is included. H.323 and SIP Agents can easily access gateways over the network via MGCP. Product availability is scheduled for September 2000. Pricing is as low as $150 per port in 100-piece quantities.
