Analyzer Helps Major Steel Company Report More Accurate Pollutant Emissions Under Acid Rain Program.

A certifiable direct stack moisture measurement proves better and less costly than wet/dry oxygen calculated moisture method. PE Systems (http://www.pesystems.NET) provided the Machine Applications Corporation MAC-150 moisture analyzer to more accurately calculate and report pollutants.

A major steel company with a facility in the Midwest was required to install Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems to measure NOx (Nitrogen Oxides) and SOx (Sulfur Oxides) mass emissions from several of the company's major sources of pollutants.

The company was required to report under the Acid Rain CFR Part 75 requirements and to certify the continuous emissions monitoring system to EPA requirements.

Originally installed wet and dry oxygen analyzers were used to calculate stack moisture concentration. The moisture value is used as a factor to report the NOx and SOx dry mass emissions.

After almost one year of trying the wet and dry calculated method the system was abandoned because it could not produce certifiable results, and the calculated mass emissions were erroneous. The per pound cost of NOx and SOx was extremely significant.

The MAC-150 Insitu direct moisture measurement analyzers were installed to replace the calculated method. Within one month the analyzers were certified and continue to produce high quality data used to calculate accurate NOx and SOx mass emissions.

The units are expected to pay for themselves within a few months.

The MAC-150 High Temperature Continuous Analyzers have been installed to support air quality regulatory requirements in refinery, cement kiln, steel and pulp and paper installations.
