Analyze the cartoon.

Cartoonist Brian Fairrington drew action figures for Democratic candidates Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. The toys aren't perfect, though. Study the cartoon. Then answer the questions.

1. What does the battery represent, and why does the girt ask whether the Obama toy can work without it?

2. Study the Hillzilla box. What flaws do you think the cartoonist sees in Clinton?

3. Can you find a positive message about one of the candidates in the cartoon? What is that message?

4. Do you think the cartoonist is being fair to the candidates? Why or why not?

ANSWER KEY

1. Experience: Political rivals have criticized Obama as not having enough political or foreign policy experience. 2. Many think people either love or hate Clinton. Some say that will divide the nation. 3. The candidates are "super heroes;" the Obama box reads: Hope. 4. Answers will vary.
