Analysis of rubber by curie-point-pyrolysis coupled with GC/MS.

Routine analysis is said to require automation due to the increasing demand for shorter analysis times, higher throughput and cost reduction. The Pyromat allows users to load up to 24 samples for unattended analysis. All parameters such as temperature, pyrolysis time and GC (gas chromatography) conditions can be defined for each sample, if required. The Curie-Point-Pyrolyser can be installed or removed from the GC in minutes. In this way it is said to be easy to change, reliably and safely, between pyrolysis and liquid injection. The advantage of Curie-Point Pyrolysis is said to be the use of ferromagnetic material which heats up in a very short time inside a magnetic field to a defined Curie-Point temperature. With increasing temperature, the permeability of ferromagnetic materials decreases. At the Curie-Point, the relative permeability of the sample carrier falls suddenly and the status changes instantaneously from ferromagnetic to paramagnetic. Pyrolysis temperature may be controlled by selection of the composition of the sample carrier. Curie-Point temperature can be provided from 160-1,040[degrees]C in ca. 15[degrees] steps.

Applications include polymers, co-polymers, elastomers, synthetics and rubber.
