Analysis is a little skewed; VIEWPOINTS.


THE latest letter from Councillor Delme Bowen was a fascinating one (Viewpoints, November 19).

A brief look at the contents show the "analysis" he refers to is a little skewed skewed

curve of a usually unimodal distribution with one tail drawn out more than the other and the median will lie above or below the mean.

For example, the 35 services with unchanged start/finish locations left me wondering "compared with when?" A sum of 24 services continue to call at the bus station but how much of the city is covered by those services? And what proportion of journeys does this represent? From my part of the city it is impossible to get a bus to the station on our "overground O´ver`ground´

" routes. Has it really taken the council more than two years to get to this current state of thinking about what might be possible? Is the reality that they had no clear plan when they started on this journey, which we were assured would be worth all the pain in the end? Or are they hoping we'll just forget the promise that it was all a temporary measure, and should be over in six months?
