FREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 25, 2000

Demonstrating its increased presence in the fast-growing non-volatile memory Refers to memory chips that hold their content without power being applied. It may refer to chips that are not changeable, such as ROMs and PROMs, or to chips that can be rewritten many times such as flash memory.  market, Credence Systems Credence Systems Corporation (NASDAQ: CMOS), is a manufacturer of test and analytical equipment for the global semiconductor industry. Founded in 1978, it is publicly traded on the Nasdaq stock market under the symbol CMOS.  Corporation (Nasdaq:CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) Pronounced "c-moss." The most widely used integrated circuit design. It is found in almost every electronic product from handheld devices to mainframes. ), a leading manufacturer of automatic test equipment (ATE) for the worldwide semiconductor industry, today announced an order from Analog Technology, Inc. The equipment, which includes four Kalos systems and one Personal Kalos(TM) system, was successfully installed at ATC's facility in Taiwan's Hsinchu Science-Based Industrial Park in October. ATC will use the systems to test EEPROM (Electrically Erasable Programmable ROM) A rewritable memory chip that holds its content without power. Although EEPROMs spawned flash memory, EEPROMs are byte addressable at the write level, whereas flash chips must erase a block of bytes before rewriting.  (electrically erasable programmable read-only memory (storage) Electrically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory - (EEPROM) A non-volatile storage device using a technique similar to the floating gates in EPROMs but with the capability to discharge the floating gate electrically. ) and flash memory products in parallel during wafer sort and final production test.

&uot;The Kalos and Personal Kalos test systems provide us with the superior multi-site test Multi-site test, or "multisite test", or "concurrent test", or "parallel test" are all semiconductor Automatic Test Equipment (ATE) terms that generally refer to testing of multiple "devices" at the same time.  capabilities, low cost-of-ownership and unmatched testing versatility requisite to maintaining our competitiveness,&uot; commented Kevin Sung, deputy manager of ATC. &uot;Having the same test system for program development and production test helps us reduce our time-to-volume production and subsequently our time-to-market.&uot;

&uot;This order further solidifies our position as a leading supplier of next-generation non-volatile memory (NVM (Non-Volatile RAM) See NVRAM. ) test systems to integrated device manufacturers See IDM.  (IDMs) as well as to our traditionally strong base in assembly and test houses,&uot; said Dr. Graham Siddall, Credence's president and chief executive officer. &uot;Credence continues to prove itself as a value-based company in test by providing tools with the flexibility and performance required by high volume, cost-sensitive semiconductor companies.&uot;

About Kalos and Personal Kalos

Kalos, featuring the industry's first Tester-On-A-Card(TM) architecture, is specifically designed for the high-speed volume requirements of wafer sort and final production test. Production configurations of Kalos can be interfaced directly with probers and handlers for parallel testing of both die and final packaged devices. Personal Kalos enables an engineer to develop test programs and perform device tests and yield analysis on a desktop, then transfer the test program directly to production. Kalos is the value standard of NVM test, providing device manufacturers with a single platform solution for test development through parallel wafer sort and final package test with reduced support costs and minimal resource usage, resulting in the lowest cost of test, smallest footprint and quickest time-to-market. The Tester-On-A-Card architecture supports true parallel test, providing each site with full tester resources, substantially increasing throughput over multi-site testers, which must share PMUs or sequencers.
