The first models came with a price tag above $1,000, and a pair were needed. In addition, three leading audio companies at CES will be showcasing home theater components that incorporate Analog Devices' digital audio processors. ADI's Broadband Video Phone adds real-time video communications to a variety of broadband-connected consumer electronics. ADI's Melody digital audio processor family decodes and post-processes all of the leading digital audio formats from Dolby, DTS (1) (Digital Theatre Sound) A digital audio encoding system used in movie and home theaters. Popularized by the movie Jurassic Park, the six-channel (5. , SRS Labs and Wave Arts and is used by leading vendors such as Denon, Linn and TAG McLaren Audio as demonstrated at this year's show.

The Denon (Booth #20000) AVR-2803 A/V Surround Receiver uses a Melody DSP audio processor and 16 AD-1835 DACs, while the DVD-2900 DVD-Audio/Video/Super Audio CD Player uses a Melody 32 audio processor. The new Linn (Booth #23072) Kisto System Controller uses two Melody SHARC Ultra processors to enable all surround sound processing to be performed with maximum fidelity. TAG McLaren Audio (Suite #805, Home Entertainment Show, San Remo Hotel) is announcing the first shipments of its AV192R, which uses two Melody SHARC Ultra audio processors. "The Melody SHARC Ultra processors enable us not only to fulfill THX A design system that provides realistic sound playback for movie and home theater from THX, Ltd., San Rafael, CA (www.thx.com), an independent spin-off from Lucasfilm, Ltd. The THX Sound System was developed during the production of the Return of the Jedi in 1982 and named after George  Ultra2 requirements, but to include full 8-channel parametric room equalization of unprecedented flexibility.
