Analog Devices Selected for 3G TD-SCDMA Phone from Holley Communications.

NORWOOD, Mass. -- Holley's new TD-SCDMA TD-SCDMA Time Division Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access  cellular handsets to be based on Analog Devices' SoftFone-LCR chipset and Datang Mobile's software and systems solution for the 3G TD-SCDMA standard.

Analog Devices, Inc. (NYSE NYSE

See: New York Stock Exchange
: ADI), a global leader in high-performance semiconductors for signal processing applications, today announced that it will supply 3G cellular chipsets to Holley Communications, of Hangzhou, China, a leading wireless communications company and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Holley Group Co Ltd, for Holley's next-generation handsets based on the emerging TD-SCDMA Low Chip Rate (LCR See least cost routing. ) air interface. Specifically, Holley will utilize Analog Devices' SoftFone(R)-LCR chipset, which provides all the critical functions necessary to build a TD-SCDMA handset, including the baseband signal processing and control, analog-interface functions and radio as well as Datang Mobile's TD-SCDMA software solution and applications suite. The 3G TD-SCDMA handsets from Holley are expected to be available by the end of this year.

"As the only complete TD-SCDMA solution available from a single supplier, our SoftFone-LCR chipset enables Holley Communications to bring their 3G handset designs to market quickly and cost effectively, said Christian Kermarrec, vice president, RF and wireless systems, Analog Devices, Inc. "Our RAM-based SoftFone architecture provides the necessary flexibility for engineers at Holley to easily customize the feature sets of their 3G terminals, which is a critical success factor in China's competitive cellular marketplace."

"When evaluating TD-SCDMA chipsets, we appreciated the fact that Analog Devices solution is based on the company's industry-proven, long-standing SoftFone architecture," said James Ge, CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board. , Holley Communications. "We were impressed with the performance of Analog Devices' SoftFone-LCR chipset and feel that it has the capability to support true 3G functions in our TD-SCDMA handsets, such as sending multimedia messages, making video calls, and downloading and playing video clips."

About the SoftFone-LCR Chipset

Analog Devices' SoftFone-LCR chipset is based on the popular RAM-based SoftFone architecture also used in Analog Devices' GSM/GPRS and EDGE chipsets. The chipset incorporates a digital baseband processor, which is based on Analog Devices' successful Blackfin(R) Processor, achieving more than 250 MHz (MegaHertZ) One million cycles per second. It is used to measure the transmission speed of electronic devices, including channels, buses and the computer's internal clock. A one-megahertz clock (1 MHz) means some number of bits (16, 32, 64, etc.  performance and exceptionally low power consumption through Blackfin's Dynamic Power Management capability. Unlike less complete chipsets targeting TD-SCDMA applications, the SoftFone-LCR's baseband signal processing, including joint detection and decoding, is performed entirely in software running on the embedded Blackfin Processor core instead of a hardware implementation. This allows terminal developers to quickly and easily adapt to evolutionary changes in the LCR standard.

The software for the SoftFone-LCR chipset is provided by Datang Mobile, which is the founder of TD-SCDMA and has the world's leading TD-SCDMA terminal protocol stack, MeCo(R), and other fundamental technologies. In addition, the companies also worked together on the development of the DTivy(TM)--A Series reference design which provides all of the necessary hardware and software componentry to build a TD-SCDMA phone. These products provide significant bill-of-materials (BOM) savings and faster time-to-market to manufacturers of next-generation 3G TD-SCDMA products, such as high-end camera phones, camcorder phones, multimedia phones, and video phones.

The SoftFone-LCR's analog baseband and power management IC provides a full set of audio features, as well as efficient power management. The SoftFone-LCR chipset also includes the Othello(R)-W direct-conversion radio transceiver, offering solid performance and flexibility for either LCR time division duplex Time division duplex

About TD-SCDMA

The TD-SCDMA (Time-Division - Synchronous Code-Division Multiple Access) standard was proposed by the China Wireless Telecommunication Standards group (CWTS CWTS Civic Welfare Training Service (Phillipines)

(3rd Generation Partnership Project) as the low-chip-rate TDD standard of the 3G standard family. Designed for 1.6 MHz channels, it is compatible with 5 MHz unpaired 3G bands in any region of the world. TD-SCDMA can serve as a complement to W-CDMA deployments since it uses the same network backbone.

The use of time-division duplexing allows the network to adapt dynamically to varying combinations of voice and data traffic, allocating uplink and downlink time slots as needed as needed prn. See prn order.  and using spectrum more efficiently than frequency-division duplexing. In addition, the cost of terminals is reduced by eliminating the need for duplex filters.

The TD-SCDMA standard has been further developed by numerous Chinese and multinational corporations and consortia. Additional details are available at www.tdscdma-forum.org.
