Business Editors and High-Tech Writers

OTTAWA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 1, 2001

Trent McConaghy, co-founder and Chief Scientist of Analog Design Automation (ADA Ada, city, United States
Ada (ā`ə), city (1990 pop. 15,820), seat of Pontotoc co., S central Okla.; inc. 1904. It is a large cattle market and the center of a rich oil and ranch area.
), today received the University of Saskatchewan's 2001 Outstanding Young Alumni Award.

In a ceremony at the University of Saskatchewan The University of Saskatchewan (U of S) is a coeducational public research university located on the east side of the South Saskatchewan River in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. The University is celebrating its centennial year in 2007.  (U of S) Faculty Club, Maureen Fromhart, vice-president of the U of S Alumni Association An alumni association is an association of graduates (alumni) or, more broadly, of former students. In the United Kingdom and the United States, alumni of universities, colleges, schools (especially independent schools), fraternities, and sororities often form groups with alumni , praised McConaghy and his team for making the design of high-performance analog and mixed-signal integrated circuits A mixed-signal integrated circuit combines analog circuits with digital signal processing (DSP) circuits on a single semiconductor die. An integrated circuit that includes both analog and digital circuitry (but no DSP), like a 555 timer, is generally not considered a mixed-signal  more automated, more intuitive and faster. , is in customer trials with planned release to the semiconductor market at the end of this year.

The Outstanding Young Alumni Award is bestowed annually upon an alumnus ALUMNUS, civil law. A child which one has nursed; a foster child. In addition to McConaghy, the ADA founding team includes U of S graduates Amit Gupta, Glen Hertz, Derek King Derek King (born February 11, 1967, in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada)[1] is a former professional ice hockey left wing who played 14 seasons in the National Hockey League from 1986-87 until 1999-00. , Chris Labrecque, and Wayne Larsen.

"Trent and his colleagues have achieved remarkable success at a superior level in a very short period of time," said Fromhart. "Trent is an inspiration to future graduates of the University of Saskatchewan and a most deserving recipient of the 2001 Outstanding Young Alumni Award."

"I'm accepting the award as a representative of all the U of S graduates who have contributed so much of themselves to ADA," said McConaghy. "Good people make all the difference in taking a company from an idea to a successful product. ADA has a stellar team of mathematicians, computer scientists, software designer, analog engineers, and business people who have intensely applied their intellect and energy to the company over the past two and a half years."

Analog Design Automation Inc. was founded in March 1999 to commercialize novel intelligent systems algorithms and techniques by making real-world parametric and structural synthesis of analog and mixed-signal electronic circuits a reality.

By July 1999, the team had achieved proof of concept for applying these novel algorithms to the design of analog integrated circuits, and the company raised $500,000 in seed money. In October 2000, product development had progressed sufficiently that a group of respected companies and venture capitalists advanced an additional $8 million. These investors included High Street Partners of Boston; Intel's Wireless Computing and Communications Group; Royal Bank Capital Partners; and Synopsys Inc.

ADA moved from Saskatoon Saskatoon (săskətn`), city (1991 pop. 186,058), S central Sask., Canada, on the South Saskatchewan River. , Saskatchewan to Ottawa, Ontario in October 2000 to be closer to its customers in Canada's technology capital. In August, 2001, IT pioneer James Rutt was made chairman of the board of ADA.

While a student at the U of S, he contributed much of his time to the University Student Council, Engineering Student Society, and Electrical Engineering Student Branch. Prior to founding ADA, McConaghy held the position of researcher at the Department of National Defence (Canada).
