Anaheim City Councilman Appointed to Metropolitan Board.


LOS ANGELES Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  -- Thomas F. Tait, Anaheim city councilman, businessman and attorney, was seated today as the city's representative on the board of directors of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California is the largest bulk water supplier for municipal use in the world. The name is usually shortened to the "Metropolitan Water District" or simply "MWD". .

Tait replaces S. Dale Stanton, who had served on the Metropolitan board since April 1998.

Appointed to the Anaheim City Council in 1995 to complete an unexpired term, Tait was elected to the council in 1996 and re-elected without a challenge in 2000. Tait, who was elected as mayor pro tem [Latin, For the time being.] An abbreviation used for pro tempore, Latin for "temporary or provisional."

A person who acts as a temporary substitute serves pro tem.
 by the council in 2002-03, has served on the city's Planning Commission and the Anaheim Community Block Grant Foundation, and is a past member of the Anaheim Budget Advisory Commission.

Tait is president of Tait & Associates, Inc., an engineering and environmental consulting firm in Santa Ana, where he leads more than 200 employees in offices throughout the western United States Noun 1. western United States - the region of the United States lying to the west of the Mississippi River

A member of the California State Bar, Tait previously was associated with the law firm of Haight, Brown & Bonesteel in Santa Monica.

Tait, a native of Pasadena, earned a bachelor's degree in finance at the University of Wyoming UW is a national research university prominent in the fields of environment and natural resource research, specializing in agriculture, energy, geology, and water resource related fields.  and a master's degree in business administration, with a concentration in finance, at Vanderbilt University. At the same time, he received a juris doctorate degree at Vanderbilt.

He and his wife, Julie, have four children.

The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California is a cooperative of 26 cities and water agencies serving 18 million people in six counties. The district imports water from the Colorado River and Northern California to supplement local supplies, and helps its members to develop increased water conservation, recycling, storage and other resource-management programs.
