Anaesthetic pioneer dies.


TRIBUTES have been paid to Liverpool's "pioneer of anaesthesia" Professor Thomas Cecil Gray CBE CBE Commander of the Order of the British Empire (a Brit. title)

Globally renowned for his work, the father-of-three died peacefully at his home last week. He was 94.

After qualifying in medicine at Liverpool University in 1937, he became a GP before joining the Royal Army Medical Corps The Royal Army Medical Corps (RAMC) is a specialist corps in the British Army which provides medical services to all British Army personnel and their families in war and in peace. .

As head of anaesthesia at the university from 1959 to 1976, he pioneered the Liverpool Technique - based on unconsciousness, analgesia and muscle relaxation.

A requiem mass service will be held at the Metropolitan Cathedral on Saturday.
