An island that visits its neighbors.


An island the size of a football field has been floating around Island Pond in Springfield, Mass., for as long as anyone can remember. Buoyed by moss and gases from decaying plants, it teems with birdS and is said to harbor a bear-size turtle turtle, a reptile of the order Chelonia, with strong, beaked, toothless jaws and, usually, an armorlike shell. The shell normally consists of bony plates overlaid with horny shields.  nAmed Big Ben. But it can also be a nuisance nuisance, in law, an act that, without legal justification, interferes with safety, comfort, or the use of property. A private nuisance (e.g., erecting a wall that shuts off a neighbor's light) is one that affects one or a few persons, while a public nuisance (e.g.  for people who five on the pond's shoreline.
