Ibn al-Salah's (1181-1245) work, more popularly known as the Muqaddima was the most influential study of the hadith during its time. While serving in Damascus as the head of one of the most prestigious institutions for the study of hadith in the Islamic world, he authored this overview of the words and actions of the Prophet prophet [Gr.,=foreteller], a religious leader and spokesperson, particularly used in the Bible. The prophets emitted messages from the divine through inspired speech, the interpretation of omens and dreams, and the casting of lots and divination.  Muhammad, and guide to the terminology and techniques of the scholars who originally collected them and who had commented on them before him. Dickinson, an American scholar of Arabic and Islam who has written widely on the hadith and the Qur'an, relies largely for his translation on two modern Arabic Modern Arabic may refer to:
