An inspiration.

During an ordinary soccer practice, Sean Brame injured one of his ankles. It became infected and escalated to septic shock. The result was blood clots throughout his body and multiple organ failure. When he arrived at Penn State Children's Hospital, he was not given much of a chance to survive. Doctors had to amputate both legs below the knee, his right hand, and all but one finger on his left hand.

After 15 weeks of hospitalization, Sean received an e-mail from DeEtt Fackler, an above the knee amputee who is a member of the Amputee Support Team and a certified peer visitor. DeEtt visited Sean on the same day as the Amputees Across America Bike Team was scheduled to visit HEALTHSOUTH Rehabilitation Hospital in Mechanicsburg, PA. Sean had never seen someone with a prosthesis before and when the members rolled in on bikes, he was full of questions. Bikers were so impressed with Sean's attitude, they made him an honorary member of their organization.

After meeting Cameron Clap at the Challenged Athletes Foundation, Sean learned there are lots of opportunities for athletes with disabilities. He has rejoined his soccer team and helped it have a winning season. Now, he wants to become an inventor so he can design a better hand with fingers.
