The first of two volumes that will index English manuscripts in Cambridge collections, this volume contains manuscripts in the Fitzwilliam Museum and Christ's, Clare, Corpus Christi, Emmanuel, and Gonville and Caius Colleges in that city. The index presents entries for each manuscript, arranged alphabetically by collection and shelf number. The entries begin with an overview of the contents of the manuscript and its date. The bulk of each entry is taken up by the careful descriptions of the miniatures in the text, historiated initials, representations in borders, capitals, catchwords, line endings, and so on, as these occur in each manuscript. Notably, the volume includes a lengthy glossary, and is very thoroughly indexed, with indexes for author and text, of incipits, pictorial subjcts, and manuscripts with coats of arms. A series of full-page b&w plates is included. The volume is distributed in North America by The David Brown Book Company.
