An easy experiment.

Place an empty bowl on a table. Put a coin at the bottom of the bowl. Slowly step back from the bowl, watching the coin until you can no longer see it. Then stop walking.

Have a friend fill the bowl with water, being careful not to disturb the position of the coin.

You will be able to see the coin again because the waves of light have been bent in passing from the water to the air.
