An e-commerce explosion.


In its first 200 days of existence, Quixtar.com racked up $250 million in e-commerce sales. Launched Sept. 1 of last year, Quixtar--a sister company of Amway--has reported daily sales averages of about $2 million, and had its first $4 million day on April 3.

Quixtar's rapid growth reflects the worldwide e-commerce market, which is expected to balloon balloon, lighter-than-air craft without a propulsion system, lifted by inflation of one or more containers with a gas lighter than air or with heated air. The report says overall e-commerce spending in the U.S. will increase to $3.169 trillion in 2004, from the $164 billion posted in 1999. The consumer segment--Quixtar's major revenue source--is expected to increase from $22 billion in 1999 to $157.4 billion in 2004, an annual 48.2% growth rate. An increase in the number of Internet users--and their increased spending--will be the force behind this growth, the report says. International consumer e-commerce will grow by 76.2% each year, from $7 billion in 1999 to $120 billion in 2004.

Quixtar was recently ranked the seventh "stickiest" Web site, according to USA Today/Nielsen ratings; it also topped the health/ beauty e-commerce market and ranks sixth among fashion sites.

U.S. expenditures by businesses buying materials and services from other companies will increase to $3.012 trillion in 2004, from $142 billion recorded in 1999--an annual growth rate of 84.2%. International B2B sales, estimated at $37 billion in 1999, will grow annually by 92% to $980 billion in 2004. The study says that the Internet will become a viable resource for international consumers and businesses/once adequate telecommunications Communicating information, including data, text, pictures, voice and video over long distance.
