An association for every trade

Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  boasts associations for almost every conceivable trade - including management of trade associations.

The List in this week's Business Journal was extracted from a larger selection in the Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  Business Directory and Buyer's Guide. The 70 trade organizations were chosen to reflect the needs of our readers.

Trade associations provide services such as advocacy, social/financial assistance, job referrals and training. Others provide information and education, set up networking events or set professional industry standards.

The Business Journal has tried to include at least one association for each major local industry. To obtain the names of additional organizations, the following publications may be of use:

* Encyclopedia of Associations (Gale Research, Detroit), publisher of regional and national publications.

* National Trade & Professional Associations of the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area.  (Columbia Books, Washington, D.C.), whose roster of organizations is indexed by subject, name, budget and region, among other things.

* National Center for Charitable Statistics (Washington, D.C.), which sells mailing labels of non-profit organizations nationally by zip code zip code

System of postal-zone codes (zip stands for “zone improvement plan”) introduced in the U.S. in 1963 to improve mail delivery and exploit electronic reading and sorting capabilities.

* The Los Angeles Directory of Women's Organizations This is a list of women's organisations. International
  • International Association of Charity - Worldwide Catholic charitable organization for women (founded 1617)
  • Relief Society - Worldwide charitable and educational organization of LDS women (founded 1842)
 (Commission on the Status of Women Noun 1. Commission on the Status of Women - the commission of the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations that is concerned with the status of women in different societies , Los Angeles).

* Directory of Trade and Professional Associations (Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce).

* Blue Book (Hollywood Reporter, Hollywood), publisher of lists of trade organizations and companies in the entertainment industry.

* Black's Guide (McGraw-Hill Information Services See Information Systems. , Los Angeles), which publishes real estate related associations.

* Save L.A. (Chronicle Books, San Francisco), listing environmentally related associations and directories.

Various colleges and universities, trade publications, yellow pages and city chambers of commerce are also good starting points in tracking down associations. Database Publishing Co., which publishes the Southern California Business Directory, puts out several other publications on international trade, manufacturing and service industries.
