An artist's approach to industry: in case you didn't know.As part of his collection on artwork depicting industry workers and craftsmen (detailed in the book Man at Work by Klaus Turk), Eckhart G. Grohmann, president and chairman of Aluminum Casting & Engineering Co. (ACE/CO), Milwaukee, invited renowned German artist H.D. Tylle to visit his foundry A semiconductor manufacturer that makes chips for third parties. It may be a large chip maker that sells its excess manufacturing capacity or one that makes chips exclusively for other companies. and turn it into a work of art. In May 2002, Tylle painted seven oil studies of ACE/CO using prepared, white cardboard Cardboard is a generic non-specific term for a heavy duty paper based product. Paperboard
Paperboard is a paper based material. It is often used for folding cartons, set-up boxes, carded packaging, etc. on a tripod easel. Initially, he sketched each oil study (taking only a few hours) while in the foundry. The scene also was simultaneously photographed to capture additional details. After Tylle returned to his studio in Kassel, Germany, he used both the sketches and photographs as reference for his final larger oil paintings of the aluminum casting application in action. Following are three of the finished paintings, along with a brief description by Grohmann. Permanent Mold Machines--"The casting workers (who were not in the original sketch sketch, a rapidly executed kind of pictorial note-taking. The sketch is not usually intended as an autonomous work of art, although many have been considered masterpieces in their own right. ) were introduced into the final version by Tylle. He employed a local model wearing ACE/CO uniforms, hardhats, safety shoes, gloves and face shields Face shield refers to a variety of devices used to protect a medical professional during a procedure that might expose the worker to blood or other potentially infectious fluid. An example is the use of a CPR mask while performing Rescue breathing or CPR. ." [ILLUSTRATION OMITTED] Final Inspection--"This painting presents the last workstation prior to shipping the aluminum castings. Two operators with air tools inspect the parts very closely and remove minor flash or traces of sand before shipment." [ILLUSTRATION OMITTED] Cleaning the Furnace--"The central focus of this painting is an open reverbatory furnace furnace, enclosed space for the burning of fuel. There are many kinds of furnaces, the type depending upon the fuel and the use to which the heat produced within it is put. Most familiar are the furnaces used in the heating of buildings. . In the finished painting, the artist added a second foundry worker to portray por·tray tr.v. por·trayed, por·tray·ing, por·trays 1. To depict or represent pictorially; make a picture of. 2. To depict or describe in words. 3. To represent dramatically, as on the stage. the physical effort of this operation." [ILLUSTRATION OMITTED] |
